I thought it would be nice to create a video introducing me, along with a few things that make me interesting. (Okay, a bit self-righteous, but oh well.)

A lot of viewers that are new to Japanoblog may not know "me", so let me spend a minute to talk about myself.

if ($programmer==true){ do_code; }

First, I am a web developer. As mentioned in our welcome video, I have been working with web development languages for over 15 years, including languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, Java (there is a difference), XML/XSL, Ruby on Rails, DOS, bash, and others (the last two aren't specifically Web-based, but good to know regardless). I first picked up HTML in 2001 back in high school and just ran with it - literally. I even opened up my own web development company.

I also teach web development classes at a local community college, and have been teaching others how to use HTML and CSS for about 2 years (It's going to be sad when I leave, because I actually like teaching).

Books? Who said anything about books?

Oh, right, me. I write books. My first series, Night Blade is a series that I had been working with Keat on and off for about 7 years. The story itself follows a half-cat demon and his friends as they gather the pieces of a medallion for a powerful wizard. I won't go into too much detail, but you can download the first edition free!. Yes, free. Get a taste of the series before you buy the rest, and hopefully, you'll enjoy it.

I'm also writing my 5th novel, Omega Noir, which is (to put it simply) Harry Potter meets The Hunger Games. I don't know why my wife isn't writing this instead, because those are her two favorite novel series. Omega Noir's first book should be out in May/June, depending on how busy I am.

Fandoms!

I have a lot of fandoms (who doesn't?). My primary ones are Sword Art Online (I will admit that I have a fan-crush on Asuna), Doctor Who (specifically, the David Tennant era - see my cosplay here and here), and Star Trek (all of them). My other fandoms include My Little Pony (I'll admit it - I'm a Brony), Arrow, Flash, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Family Guy, Simpsons, Once Upon a Time, Dr. Ken, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Swat Kats, Alton Brown, DuckTales, Heroes, and there are probably a few more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Ferri...Ferroeq....Train Fan

As also mentioned in the Japanoblog Welcome video, I will be the host of Japanotrains where, as a fellow ferroequinologist (fancy word for fan of trains), I will be covering the different types of trains (Shinkansen, sleeper cars, local routes, and hopefully, a Cruise Train), their routes, schedules, the ticket process, and more. I've been a fan of trains all my life, and even have my own N-Scale train set (that I can hopefully assemble one day).

Cooking?

Yes, I like to cook as well. After seeing Alton Brown cook up some extremely great dishes, I picked up the hobby and enjoy cooking. So when Keat and I are both at home, it's not her automatic job to cook, I help as well, and I do a good job of it if I do say so myself.

You can see more about me at my personal site KyleMPerkins.com and my Facebook and Twitter accounts.
