New Year's in Kyoto - Day 1 (December 30 2016)

To bring in 2017, we decided to visit Kyoto for the holiday. What did that entail? Well, traveling on a Shinkansen (the bullet train), staying in a hostel, planning our trip around the countless temples and shrines, and fitting in time to relax around those.
So what did we do on our first day? After finding out that the Shinkansen can travel with people standing (including us), we rested before heading out for food (we got to Kyoto at about 3, and it gets dark in Japan around 5 in the winter).
There wasn't much for Day 1, but we did (semi) discover Pontocho Alley (we were actually a street off, but it was still fun).
